MARCH 2005
The medical caravan team that
Dick Burdine was with in Sri
Lanka was attacked by an angry mob of Muslims. The men were able to get into
their vehicle and before the mob could break into the van the police came and
rescued them. They were put into protective custody for that night and escorted
to a place of safety the next day. In spite of the problems they encountered,
they were able to help many of the Tsunami survivors and also saw over 70 people
accept the Lord Jesus Christ as Personal Saviour. They were also able to
establish a way for ongoing relief efforts to be carried on after they left Sri
Lanka. We thank God for protecting them during the attack and also for those who
were saved while they were in Sri Lanka.
Frank &
Darla Brim and children have returned to Brazil for their next term of
service. Pray for them as they get settled and back into the work there in
Brazil. The Lord richly blessed the work while they were in the U. S. and they
are looking forward to seeing the church there continue to develop and grow,
plus they have plans to begin another new work very soon.
After 36 years as WBF Missionaries in Ecuador,
Charles and Juanita Bowen are
beginning a new ministry with Spanish speaking people here in the U. S. Pray for
them as they make the transition to this new ministry and please continue to
stand behind them with your financial support.
Coming to the U. S. this month for furlough are
Dave & Carole Ross from Indonesia.
Pray for them as they take care of last minute details before making the trip to
the States.
Please continue to pray for
Cecil Henderson, who is
still hospitalized here in Arlington. He has been moved to the Kindred Hospital,
which is a rehab facility. Tests revealed that the source of his internal
bleeding was a cancerous spot in his esophagus. The doctors are trying to build
up his strength before beginning to treat the cancer. Pray much for Cecil and
also for Saundra and the family.
Both
Joe and Elaine Hawkins
are improving on a daily basis. Elaine did not have to undergo surgery for her
injured shoulder, but is undergoing physical therapy and the doctor feels that
she will heal without the need for surgery. Joe is doing well following the
blood clots in his lungs, but is having some difficulty maintaining his blood
sugar levels. They will probably be in the States for at least three months
before returning to Brazil.
Jack Weaver continues to do well in his battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He
is growing weaker physically, but his spirits remain high and he has a positive
outlook. Pray also for Jo as she cares for him. The lifting she has to do in
taking care of Jack has caused her to have back problems.
Sammy Jo Myers, the 14-year-old daughter of
Troy & Sandy Myers, has been
diagnosed with Synomial Sarcoma, which is a very aggressive form of cancer that
usually strikes young adults. She underwent surgery earlier this month and will
begin a series of chemotherapy and radiation to try to keep the cancer from
spreading. Pray much for Sammy Jo and also for Troy and Sandy.
The following missionaries need your prayers as
they battle ongoing illness:
Miss Bessie Millican, Debi
Harris, Monnie Bacon,
Mary Gagnon, Phil Gagnon,
Juanita Bowen (recovering from
back surgery), Gloria Higgins,
Sandy Janky, Gary Janky.
Thank you for your prayers and financial
support for our missionary families and also for the General Fund. We appreciate
your investment in our ministry of world evangelization.
