NEWSLETTER

OCTOBER 2004

Missionaries Mark and Dana McCutchen arrived at their church building in Sao Paulo, Brazil to discover that thieves had broken in and stolen their keyboard, overhead projector and digital hymnal.  (The digital hymnal is a small synthesizer that plays the music for each song in the hymnbook for which it is programmed.  It is a tremendous blessing to a church or mission that does not have a regular musician.  We have had several of these machines, called Gloria, donated to our Mission Store in the past few years).  This is a tremendous loss to the McCutchens and their small church in Sao Paulo.  Please be in prayer for them that the Lord will supply the need in replacing the stolen items.

Miss Bessie Lee Millican has now completed 62 years as a missionary to the Mexican people.  She has spent 58 of those years in the town of Gonzalez, Tamps.  In some families there in Gonzalez, three generations have been reached with the Gospel as a result of her labors with the women and children of that community.  At this time Miss Bessie is nearing the end of her earthly life and she has chosen to remain in Mexico among the people she has loved and served so faithfully.  Please be in prayer for her that the Lord will grant comfort and grace as she waits on Him to call her home to glory.  Missionary Gayle Sparks and two Mexican ladies, Raquel and Julia, are caring for Miss Bessie on an around the clock basis.

Bro. Jack Weaver was able to preach at the Arlington Baptist College chapel recently.  He continues his struggle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, but with the aid of the breathing machine and electric wheelchair he is able to be active.  His message was a tremendous blessing and challenge to the ABC student body.

Christmas offerings sent to our missionaries should be sent to them in care of the Mission Office and marked, “Christmas Gift”.  These gifts will be deposited to our missionaries’ bank accounts in addition to their regular offerings.  Checks should not be sent directly to the field due to problems with the mail and banking systems in most countries.  The safest and surest way to get funds to the missionaries is to send them to the Mission Office.

Ken & Cyndi Chapman and children have arrived from Australia for furlough.  Pray for them as they get settled and into the routine of their furlough travels.  Pray also for Cyndi’s health as she recovers from thyroid cancer.

Pray for those of our mission family who are ill: Monnie Bacon, Gloria Higgins, Debi Harris, Cyndi Chapman, Cecil Henderson, Barbara Wimm, Sandy Janky, Mary Gagnon, Phil Gagnon, Bessie Millican, Sarah Winters, Jack Weaver, Lanny Wood.

We send a special “Thank You” to each church and individual who had a part in this year’s Special Mission Offering and Mission Store.  Thanks, also, to those who faithfully support the General Fund on a monthly basis.  Your faithfulness makes it possible for us to continue to serve our missionary families around the world.
