APRIL 2008
The World Baptist Fellowship meeting, May 12-15,
2008, which will take place on the beautiful campus of Arlington Baptist
College, will feature on Monday evening, May 12, a Family & Friends
Reunion of graduates, past students, and friends of Arlington Baptist
College. This will be a
wonderful opportunity to renew old friendships and meet new friends who
have a common love for Arlington Baptist College.
Bro. Tommy Meers has done a great job of organizing and promoting
this reunion. I am
personally looking forward to seeing many of the class of 1962 at this
special reunion. In addition, there is a great lineup of speakers for the
meeting. There will be
inspiring music, and a number of WBF Missionaries will be present. Please make your plans to attend this year’s May Fellowship
meeting. You will be
blessed, and you will be a blessing to others by your attendance.
Springtime always brings a reminder of new life.
As we see the new growth, it should remind us of the new life we
have in Christ. We rejoice
in all that the Lord has done and the promise of what He has in store
for us. Our missionaries
around the world report souls being saved and growth in their
ministries. They also
report difficulties and opposition that they have to face.
One of the greatest difficulties that our missionaries around the
world are facing is the continuing decline in the value of the U. S.
dollar. When the value of the dollar falls in comparison to other
currencies, it means that our missionaries’ buying power is cut.
Many of our missionaries have lost more than 50% of their funds
in the last four years, not because their support has dropped, but
because of the weakening of the dollar. It is hard for us as Americans to understand this because for
us a dollar is worth a dollar. If
we had to purchase other currency, however, we would soon find out how
little our dollars are worth compared to other currencies today. We need to make this a matter of prayer that the Lord will
work on behalf of our missionaries in continuing to meet their needs;
either through increased support, or an improvement in the dollar’s
exchange rate. We know that
God is not limited; He is able to provide!
Pray for the following missionaries who have health
issues: Debi Harris is
recovering from pneumonia. Since
she has MS, any illness is more difficult for her to overcome.
Joe Hawkins was hospitalized with a severe infection in his leg,
but is improving. Dr.
Wendell Hiers is recovering from surgery for prostate cancer.
Mike Lane is also receiving treatment for prostate cancer, but
has not yet had any surgery. Dale
Brown, in New Zealand, has been diagnosed with MS, which runs in his
family. He will be
having further testing. Little
Eliana Densmore is still struggling with the life-threatening metabolic
disease. Doyle
Whaley, Mary Gagnon,
Monnie Bacon, Dana
McCutchen, Juanita
Bowen, Charlene Neill,
Amber Cato, Ernie
Brown, Sandy Janky, Sammy Jo Myers all need our
prayers for improvement in ongoing physical battles.
“Faithfulness” is a word we many times take for
granted. It is your
faithfulness, however, that makes possible the ongoing ministry of our
missionaries around the world, and also the operation of our Mission
Office through support for the General Fund.
Missions is a team effort. The
missionaries cannot do their work without the faithfulness of God’s
people. The churches cannot fulfill the Great Commission without
faithful missionaries who go and do the work in the regions beyond.
Thank you for your faithfulness!
Tommy
