Dear Brethren,
God's grace and blessings have poured upon our Sunday School campaign.
Our average numbers are about 40% higher than they were before the
campaign began in October. Our Sunday evening service and other ministries
have also benefited, as our people are being encouraged to bring visitors
to all services and ministries. As a reward for the great attitude and
participation, each class has a special outing to go on at the beginning
of the new year. In each class, individuals will be rewarded also
according to their efforts in faithful attendance, bringing their Bible to
Sunday School, Scripture memorization, homework completed, and visitors
brought to the services. Thank you for your prayers for our campaign.
Please continue to pray that the efforts and results will not fizzle out
with the ending of the campaign this month.
The subject of the decreasing value of the dollar internationally is on
the hearts of the missionaries here in Brazil. Construction and
other projects, unless funded by special offerings, have pretty much come
to a halt as we all struggle to make ends meet. There are positives as
well as negatives to all of this. Positively, it helps us remember that
it's the Lord who supplies our every need, in His perfect timing. Also, we
are able to use our situation to encourage the people to get behind and
sacrificially give towards their church ministries and projects. They are
beginning to realize that we truly are not "rich Americans" with
a money tree in our backyard. Negatively, it does get mighty discouraging
at times; positively, we lift up in prayer our frustrations to the Lord
who is the only One who can truly help.
The 15% devaluation of the dollar from September 2004 to June 2005
prompted us to raise extra support on our 2005-2006 furlough. While
Stateside, the dollar value in Brazil remained on the decline. To get on
top of the situation, we set our goal on a 25% increase. We were provided
with about 20%. The problem we now face is a 17.5% drop in the exchange
rate over a one year period, accompanied with increased inflation. Once
again, we're in need of an increase in support. Since August 2004, there
is well over a 40% devaluation of the US dollar. Please pray for our
financial situation to improve.
Praise: Two adults, Samuel (28) and Dizelda (in her 50's), have
made professions of faith over the last three weeks! Please pray for them,
as Samuel is getting married in January with one of the young ladies of
our church, and Dizelda has a difficult family situation.
Our prayer requests are:
Spiritual growth of Samuel and Dizelda.
Our continued growth in Sunday School.
The salvation of our new contacts.
That we'd soon have the funds to finish our special projects.
Thank you again for all your prayers and help for our ministry here in
Southern Brazil. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with family and
friends, and that the New Year will bring loads of blessings and joy to
you.
In His service,,
