Dear Praying Friends,
We have seen several children
saved since our last communication with you. We have been going into
apartment complexes and picking up local children and in some cases
their parents and bringing them to church. Some of these children have
very challenging home lives, and their individual stories will break
your heart, but we rejoice that we can be of some influence and help to
them. It is a real team effort at Oahu Baptist Church to minister to
these children. As an example just last Sunday little Mileena
Kanoa-Yehon was led to the Lord by her Sunday School teacher, Mrs.
Jolean Colvin. She and her brother, Mikey had been brought to church the
last few months by some other members, Aaron and Lenora Martin. Please,
pray for Mileena and Mikey as they face many challenges at home, and
pray we can reach their parents for Christ as well.
It is a blessing to see
families in our church get involved in winning folks to Christ. The two
families that helped reach Mileena have really grown in their dedication
and service to Christ. We will loose both of these families this summer
as they move to the mainland, but we are confident they will continue to
serve the Lord in their new homes. Yes, our biggest challenge continues
to be folks moving off Island. The Aso family is a good illustration of
this. This is a Samoan family of eight we met through our Christmas
Outreach Banquet, and they started coming to church regularly. Some of
the family members were saved, and we were anticipating others coming to
Christ, but just two weeks ago they moved to Alaska for an opportunity
in the commercial fishing business. The economy here forces many to move
off the Island. In fact, last year our Island had a net loss in
population. The high cost of living was the primary factor. This makes
the ministry challenging, but we know you all have your own challenges
as well, so we remind ourselves often not to look at the greatness of
the challenges, but at the greatness of God.
Our son, Jacob, is doing well
at Arlington Baptist College. He reports that he is getting a few
opportunities to preach. He sounds excited about that. He is very
excited to be coming back to Hawaii this summer. Of course his mother
and I are thrilled to have him back home with us as well. We are going
to put him to work in the ministry, and hopefully this will be good
hands on training for Him. Please pray for him and Caleb and Katie as we
do our best to challenge them to put Christ first no matter what career
field God leads them into. Mahalo for your prayers and support. You are
so faithful!
