YEAR IN REVIEW
When
we began meeting in Caerleon last year I set what I considered to be a
few modest goals. Some we have met; others we did not. One goal was to
have as many as sixteen in services before our first anniversary
service. That goal we were blessed to see accomplished by the end of
January. And the nineteen at our first anniversary service the last
Sunday in July has been our high day so far. I would like to see us have
two dozen in services before the next anniversary, and that will mean
I’ll have to fight against the unbelief that I preached about this
morning!
One
goal that we did not meet the first year was to get several people into
our services from the Caerleon community proper. We did get one lady
living in Caerleon to visit with her little girl, but that family moved
to England early in the summer. We have people coming from west, north,
and east of Newport, but nobody from the community itself. But we are
thankful for the people we do have, and every opportunity to serve the
Lord that presents itself.
Speaking of opportunities to serve, the car boot sales (see last letter)
were interesting experiences. Of course, the vast majority were not
interested, but Jack and I did get some Bibles and Christian literature
into the hands of a few people. There is always the odd crank (car boot
sales always draw some odd characters) who wants to rail against God,
the church, and religion in general; but you just let them finish, say
something positive for the Lord, and turn your attention to the next
person who is coming by. Today was scheduled as the last boot sale for
the year, but it was cancelled due to inclement weather. We’ll give it
another go in the spring when they start up again.
HARVEST SUNDAY
This
morning we acknowledged Jack & Ute Hardy being with us one year. It
is just another blessing to be thankful for as we prepare for our
Harvest service tonight. Harvest is probably the closest thing we have
here in the UK to American Thanksgiving. Jack will be doing the speaking
this evening, and then we’ll sit down for our harvest meal with the
Lord’s people.
AUTUMN CAMP
Recently
I sent out an email to several friends asking for prayer for the youth
camp during the school half-term break. The camp starts tomorrow and
runs to Friday. We ended up with one girl going - not as many as we
would have liked, but one more than last year. And we all know the value
of one soul and one life. So if you are getting the email version of
this letter, please pray for everybody involved in camp this week -
adults and kids.
May
God richly bless all of you faithful rope holders as you make it
possible for us to minister here.
