UPDATE ON NEW WORK IN CAERLEON
(pronounced care-LEE-un)
Well,
the Grace Baptist Assembly finally has
the final draft of her covenant/constitution/confession accepted and
signed as of last month. It took a few months to complete, but we feel that it
was well worth the time and effort put into it. When people know what you
believe and what is expected of them, surely some problems can be avoided. We
will also be observing the Lord’s Supper for the first time this week, and all
this preparation should be beneficial for that service, too.
Attendance in
Caerleon has been slowly growing. We have about seven to nine core
people plus whoever else visits any given service at the Scout hut. The last
Sunday in January saw sixteen in attendance, which certainly helps the preacher.
Beginning
in January the local nursing home in
Caerleon has allowed us to have an early afternoon chapel service for
the residents on some Fridays. So far the administrators have allowed us to book
one service at a time, and then get feedback from the residents before allowing
us to schedule again.
You never
know who you’ll be ministering to in these situations. After the first service
one of the ladies told me that the funeral of a dear friend was being held that
afternoon and that she wasn’t able to attend, but my message from Revelation 7
encouraged her in the Lord. A faithful member of her Baptist church in Newport
for more than forty years, she gets few visits from her church.
We would
ask you to pray for this particular
nursing home ministry. We get to deliver the good news of Jesus Christ
to more than double the number of folks we have in services on Sundays,
including staff as well as residents. And the people there do take notice and
spread the word that there is a church in town that cares about folks. That four
or five people from the church – not just the preacher – show up to minister
to them makes a better witness for Christ.
We
have found a place for morning services, thanks to some contacts that
Bro. Jack Hardy has made. They will begin the first Sunday in March at Caerleon
Comprehensive School. Pray that some folks who cannot make it for evening
services may be able to attend in the morning. The Lord has people out there; we
just need to find them.
May God
richly bless all of you - our prayerful supporters - as you make it possible for
us to continue ministering here.
Feeding
a few and fishing for more in the old world,
