Dear Pastor and Church,                                                            April- June 2009

We had the opening of the new building in My-suk-san on June 19th. What a blessing it was to have around 70 teens and adults in attendance. The headman of the village had promised to come and was a no-show, again. There are still some problems with people in the village but Pra-doe and Pan continue to do an excellent job. They have had up to eight teens and adults attend on Sunday with around twenty kids. Pra-doe was able to lead Chat-chai (15 years old) to the Lord in May. So far this year in this village we have seen five accept Christ as their Savior.
We were able to finish three block courses for the Institute - Minor Prophets 1, Hermeneutics, and Homiletics. The Hermeneutics class had me a little worried. I have taught it once but was worried about Ahjew. He is 45 years old. He had studied Thai with Kannika about seven years ago. Most of his tests are done orally or someone would write down his answers as he dictates. He can read Thai but he has to memorize how to write the words when he tests. I was really worried about Hermeneutics because there are so many new words, concepts, and a lot of writing. I joked with Pra-doe about having him teach the class. He thought I was serious and began to talk about how much he enjoyed that class. He even said he had read the book Principles and Processes of Biblical Interpretation three times since graduating in 2001. He has taught a couple first year courses and did a great job. Then I thought, it might be a good idea. Pra-doe, Ahjew, and Jakhu are all native Lahu speakers. Pra-doe could explain the concepts so Ahjew could understand. He did a great job.
Bro. Ed came from Hawaii and did 3 computer seminars for the nationals. On our way to one of the seminars we stopped at the Hospital in Chiang Rai to visit with one of the ladies from our village. Kannika was able to lead Na-ya' (35 years old) to the Lord.
We do appreciate all your prayers and support.
