SHAWN and AMY SULLIVAN
WBF Missionaries to
THE UKRAINE
October 2002
Dear Praying Friends,
Winter is settling in early this year; the first snow fell last weekend
and temperatures are already in the 30’s. The colors of fall still
remain, but soon the trees will be bare and the skies gray for many months.
We have restarted our English clubs in the village of Gatnoe for beginning and
advanced students. Pray that the opportunity will present itself to share
the gospel with these groups. Pray especially for Vitaly, a self
proclaimed athiest, who has some questions of interest in spiritual matters.
A small group of believers in Gatnoe has also asked us to come and conduct
systematic Bible studies with them. No one in this group, including the
current pastor, has any consistent Bible training and this would be an excellent
opportunity to plant a church where there is no gospel witness. Also be in
prayer for our language professor, Julia. She was raised Catholic, but is
bitter about the hypocrisy she has seen in the priesthood and has begun to ask
probing questions about the differences in our faiths/religions.
Family News:
We are so excited to finally be all settled into our new place! The Lord
has really blessed us with a great house to live in and a wonderful landlord
this time around! Thank you so much for all of your prayers on our behalf!
We now have a new addition to our little family - we have a German Shepherd
puppy. She is solid black, very unique looking, and the kids have really
been enjoying her - she is our very first family pet. She serves a dual
purpose in that she will also be great protection for us while we are living out
here in the village.
We are all back in school now - the kids are really enjoying it and are doing
very well. Cody is in the 5th grade, and Kayla is in the 2nd grade - they
both have excellent teachers this year. Amy and I are both back in
language classes, after a little over four months off. We hadn’t planned
on taking so much time off, but various circumstances prevented us from being
able to attend during that time. But now we are back in full swing again
and are anxious to learn the language so that we will be able to minister to the
people here
