March 2009 God
has blessed us immensely in our work with Mission Quest International
over the last two years and exceeded our expectations with phenomenal
results. Over 300 people
have accompanied us to the mission field, many were encouraged to
increase their mission activity and giving and several even surrendered
their lives to career missions and are currently in training for
ministry. Mike Starling and
I are the best of friends and have enjoyed working together
tremendously, but God has been working in our hearts to return to church
planting. For
the last few months we have been seeking God’s leadership and open
doors to be used in this way. Recently,
I was approached by a good friend from a respected organization in
regards to a position on their team of church planters.
Bruce O’Neal, from MANNA Worldwide, invited us to help expand
their missionary efforts around the world and after prayerful
consideration and counsel, we decided to pursue this opportunity. We
met with D.L. Moody, Tommy Raley, Mike Evans and other key leaders of
our fellowship and mission, for counsel and direction, and all of these
men were very positive and supportive of this new venture.
Brother Raley encouraged me to proceed raising financial support
and presenting our new ministry, with the understanding that there would
be a formal vote of the committee in May 2009 approving the field
change. We will maintain our
status as WBF missionaries and have partnered with MANNA Worldwide to
expand the outreach and sphere of influence of our fellowship.
This is similar to the relationship that exists between Mission
Quest International and the WBF; we are accountable to our sending
church and the WBF for our work and ministry. My
new title is Assistant Director of European Operations for MANNA
Worldwide. My specific area of responsibility is church planting in
Eastern Europe among nations of the former Soviet Union, Muslim people
groups and Russian speakers. MANNA Worldwide is a team of
Independent Baptist missionaries working together to plant churches in
the most unreached, impoverished and difficult regions of the world. Bruce
O’Neal is the founder and Director and a former missionary in Japan
and the Philippines. God has blessed Manna’s efforts
tremendously and allowed them to plant 115 churches in 36 countries over
the last 8 years. My role is to expand their outreach farther into
Eastern Europe toward primarily Muslim, Middle-Eastern and Asian
communities, as well as Russian language people groups.
Using the principles of Matthew 25 and James 2 to minister to the
needs of the poor and the fatherless, MANNA has been invited into
antagonistic and even hostile cultures to plant churches where no other
missionary organization has been allowed access. This is an
unprecedented opportunity for our family and our partner churches to
reach the most un-reached with the gospel. If
