Dear
Praying Friends,
March 31, 2008
Missions
work is persistently humbling. It
seems the harder we try to make an impact on the “field”, the more
God uses the mission field to change us, teach us and break us.
Our heart’s desire is to please God and draw people closer to
Him. The fact is that God
doesn’t need us to accomplish His goals, but wants us to
partner with Him in making an eternal impact in the lives of those
around us.
Mission
Quest International’s focus is not so much on leading teams to the
mission field to change the field, but so that God can use the
field to change us. When
the field breaks us, we come back home ready to engage in missions to
whatever degree that God would have us to.
That is our main focus—to recruit people for missions!
Evidence
of these changes in people’s lives has already been seen over the last
few years and is already being seen from the 70+ individuals who
accompanied us to
Mexico
just a couple weeks ago, during spring
break. One church secretary,
who wasn’t sure she could survive the trip and even tried to cancel
her reservation on several occasions, experienced a dramatic change of
heart. She was heard to say
after only three days in
Mexico
, “I could actually do this, I could
be a missionary here”. Two
other young ladies confirmed their calling to missions and will be
attending
Arlington
Baptist
College
in the fall to begin their preparation
for the mission field. Youth
pastors, students, pastors and their wives, old and young alike, gave
testimonies of eye-opening experiences and new understanding of missions
and the mission field. Most
returned home with a new resolve to surrender to God’s leadership in
regards to their level of participation in world missions.
We thank God for allowing MQI to be used to leave a mark on
people’s lives that they will never forget!
Shawn,
Mike and a courageous group of hardy souls are working out, gearing up
and making final preparations to hike into the Copper Canyon near Creel,
Mexico in just a couple of weeks (April 16-23).
With backpacks, military meals, a satellite tracking device and
no contact with anyone in the outside world for five days, they will be
led by missionary Alfonso
Sanchez to view his works and survey new areas to minister among the
Tarahumara Indians. Pray for
this team;
Copper
Canyon
is rated one of the most difficult extreme hiking locations in the
world!
We
at Mission Quest have been able to develop a new missions training
series called “Missions: Rediscovering Our Purpose”.
We are currently teaching this series at
Temple
Baptist
Church
in
Fort Worth
,
TX
and are having a great
response. This series
covers the Biblical fundamentals of missions, the individual’s role in
missions, analysis and
examination of our missions programs and outreaches, and
practical application of principles used by the top mission churches in
the country. Shawn and Mike
are available to teach this series in your church—if you are
interested in this, please contact MQI for details.
Please
be in prayer for our family and the ministry of Mission Quest.
Pray specifically about the nine remaining trips this year, for
provision of resources and permanent office space as Mission Quest
continues to grow. Also, for
our personal financial support—we have lost quite a bit of support
during this transition, but we know that we are exactly where God wants
us and He will meet our needs, as He always has.
If you would like to know more about our trips, prayer needs or
any other information, please visit our website at: www.gomissionquest.com
or call us anytime! We’d
love to hear from you and answer any questions you might have.
Thank
you all for your faithful prayer and support throughout this transition
in our ministry. We are
seeing God use MQI more than we ever imagined and yet there is so much
more for us to do. We are
excited to see what God has for us!
Thank you for your part in all of this—we couldn’t do it
without you! God bless
you all!
