ROBERT and MARCIA STEFFENS
MEXICO
Where in the world is Mexico?
Robert and Marcia were approved as World Baptist Fellowship
missionaries August 2005 to the country of Mexico. They plan to work with
the Tarahuamara Indians in the mountains of Chihuaha State in North Central
Mexico.
Robert graduated from Arlington Baptist College in 2005.
Marcia graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1975 with a degree in
nursing. She attended Arlington Baptist College.
Robert was born in Menasha, Wisconsin. When he was 15 he stared into a
starry sky and asked God, “Is this all there is to life?” He was 21
and stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base when Marcia handed him a tract and
eventually convinced him to meet with three airmen from her church. He agreed
because he felt that “…as a good Catholic I would educate them.” He
accepted Christ that evening. Later he surrendered to preach. During
Introduction to Missions class, he read, “Go and Tell This People”, by Ralph
Wimm. This was his introduction to the Tarahumara Indians. His burden changed
into a calling through the school years. The open doors God provided during the
field survey trip to the area reconfirmed this call.
Marcia
was born in St. Johns, Michigan. She first heard the Gospel at the age of 5 when
Uncle Glen (a one-man band /ventriloquist) from Grove Bible church came to her
one-room schoolhouse. She rode the bus to their Vacation Bible School. They had
contests involving KJV memory verses and sword drills. At the age of 17 Daniel
Barz asked her: “Did she know if she would go to heaven when she died,” and,
“Why should God let her into heaven?” He told her the answers she gave were
not correct. This shook her up being a “good” kid. (She was already asking
“why” she existed.) He gave her a tract. It quoted John 10:10 and said the
abundant life meant a life full of meaning or a “why”. She was saved on Oct.
20, 1971.
When they were stationed in Germany they depended upon
cassette tapes. For a time Robert’s schedule and a handicapped child often
made attending church impossible so they depended upon Christian radio. Later,
after reading Titus 2 they prayed for an older man and woman to teach them. God
blessed them with their spiritual parents, Mr. and Mrs. (Melvis) Griffin Jones,
Sr., of San Antonio.
Their sending church is Pleasantview
Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas.
Robert and Marcia have four grown children.
