July, 2002

Dear Friends,

Now that I have breathing space, I thought I had better write a letter to bring you up on what has happened and is happening in Gonzalez. As you know May and July are very busy months for me. I begin thinking  and doing crafts for Vacation Bible School. Of course, this includes copying, cutting and glueing. Each year I prepare 150 crafts for boys and girls between the ages of 2 to 9. (This actually means 150 each day for 6 days a total of 900) Then I work up the crafts of the boys ages 9 and up (about 50 each day). Sometimes this is the hardest because they like things different and harder to do.  You may ask is it worth all the work and money? I can say yes. This year about 400  boys, girls, and adult were enrolled (average of over 200 for 4  days).  They came and heard a Bible story about the Crucifixion of Christ and afterward; they made their craft to take home, which each one had the memory verse of that day on it. On Sunday we had over 250 present and  I gave the main lesson about "Why Christ dies and 7 Reasons for the Resurrection" and some accepted Christ as their Saviour. Thank you for taking part in this special week.

For sometimes now we have had  a group of people coming to our services from Manuel (20 minutes from Gonzalez). In April they talked to our pastor about having services in Manuel. There was a lady who was willing to loan us a big room for the services.  The last Thursday of April, we had our first service.  Sometimes the room  is packed and we have to sit on the porch. Four weeks ago I started a class for the children out in the yard. Times this is difficult because the lady has chickens, turkeys, and dogs who catch the attention of the children.  The lady ,who is loaning us the room is catholic and has her big altar to the saints in front of her house but she does come to the services and sometimes she comes to Gonzalez to the services. The other week a couple accepted Christ.  These are the reasons we have the mission. Pray for it.

We have started construction on a Sunday School building  on the lot in front of the church. It will have 5 rooms plus bathrooms . We have needed rooms for a long time but did not have enough money. Thanks to my home church Mt. Zion Baptist, Jasper, Georgia, who has promised us almost half of the cost. God bless you Mt. Zion.  Also, we are working (selling plate lunches) and saving to help on the cost. Hope to have it finished by the 1st of the year or sooner.  Pray for this project.

Thanks to all of you who are having  a part in the work in Gonzalez with your prayers and finances. May God bless each of you.

Yours for Mexico,
gayle
