David
& Debby SMITH & Family
Reaching French-Speaking Québec with the Gospel
May 25, 2004
Dear Co- Laborers in Christ,
My Dad, John V. Smith, passed away on March 10. He was saved. I was able to return home alone to
Atchison, KS with the help of our sending church, Cheney Baptist Church. I participated in the funeral by
sharing his personal testimony of salvation in Christ, as well as how he was
instrumental in my salvation. We want to thank each of you for your
prayers for us during this time.
God is truly working in the hearts of people here in Quebec! A man named Patrice and his two
daughters have been faithfully attending our services in recent weeks. I gave them each a
French Bible. Patrice was saved recently. I am having weekly Bible studies with him and he has
many questions. Patrice has a true hunger for the Word of
God. He is also going through trials and I am
counseling him with scripture. He is noticeably growing spiritually
week-by-week. Patrice has a great
potential and desire to be a worker in the church. Please pray that God will use the
Bible studies to help Patrice continue to grow spiritually and to overcome these difficulties through his
faith in Christ.
Patrice's daughters attend Debby's Sunday school class. Caroline, 11 and
Camille, 6, have not had
much exposure to the Gospel until now. Pray for their salvation. They are open and
eager to listen.
Debby is teaching lessons using the Betty Lukens flannel graph images. She just finished some great
lessons on the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.
Pricille is a 24-year-old nurse who recently moved from Paris, France to work in a hospital here. We
drive 20 minutes one-way to bring her to church, as she doesn't have a driver's license.
Please pray for
Pricille as she adjusts to Quebec and her job orientation. She wants to be faithful
and help in the church.
A faithful couple in our church, Eric and Helene Demers, had a baby boy on May 18 at around 5:30
PM, EST. Jeremie (French for Jeremiah) weighed in at 9 lb. 3 oz. and was 22 in. long.
Jeremie's
arrival was very exciting! Eric & Helene dropped their three boys off with us as they were
rushing to hospital across town. Through the rush hour traffic, they made it to the hospital
just minutes before the
baby was born. Whew! We are very happy for the Demers family and this is also a blessing to our
church family. I told them that this is one way to help the church here to grow.
Ha, ha!
