Reaching French-Speaking Québec with the Gospel

February 28, 2003

Dear Co-Laborers in Christ,

We are busy distributing gospel literature here in snowy Gatineau, Quebec.  We made up a flyer in French for distribution similar to one that proved effective when we were in Quebec City.  The small flyer has a question in large type at the top: “Où serez-vous pour l’éternité ?” (Where will you be for eternity?).  This is followed by the response, “The answer is found in the Bible.”  We also offer a free New Testament and Bible correspondence courses.  There is a brief plan of salvation with Bible verses, our coordinates and an invitation to our church services.  We regularly distribute this flyer along with other gospel tracts with our coordinates stamped on the back.

We have started our Church Web Site here in Gatineau: www.EgliseBibliqueBaptiste.com.  The goal of this Web Site is to be another tool for evangelism to reach the unsaved in Quebec and to explain who we are.  We are also in the process of putting the entire French Bible online.  Our new Church listing in the Yellow Pages highlights the Web Site address.  One of our church members, Eric Demers, a computer programmer, and I have worked together to set up the Web Site.  On it we offer a free French New Testament and evangelistic Bible correspondence courses. We have had local contacts through the Site.  However, another unexpected blessing as a result of the Web Site is that we are getting requests for French Bible correspondence courses from around the world at a rate of one or two requests a week.  When the requests are out of our region, we refer them to Source of Light ministries, Madison, Georgia, and they take care of enrolling the students in these Bible courses.

Recently, I visited a man in hospital at the request of his two sons.  They were concerned about his salvation, and that he had just had a stroke.  Monsieur Beaudoin was receptive and I was able to share my personal testimony and the whole plan of salvation.  I left him a gospel tract and a Gospel of John & Romans booklet.  The cover clearly states the name of our Church.  I asked him if I could come back to visit him again.  He happily said yes.  However, the next day, I received a threatening phone call from his girlfriend.  First, when she called, and I answered with the name of the Church, she asked me if this was the John & Romans (as if that was the name of our Church).  She threatened that if I tried to visit M. Beaudoin again, that she and his brothers and sisters would throw me out.  She said that he was Catholic and that his family was in that, and that he was going to stay Catholic.  In Quebec, anything other than Catholicism is viewed as a cult by the average Québécois.

We have another lady that has just started attending our services.  Please pray for Marie-Martine.  She is saved and is faithful.  Please pray for her concerning trials she is going through now.

·        Please pray for preparations for our Grand Re-opening Evangelistic meetings Sept. 3-7, 2003.

·        Please pray for our planned distribution this summer of 40,000 John & Romans booklets & flyers.

Thank you for your continued support and your prayers in these days and months to come.  Thank you for the joy of laboring together with you and with the Lord.

Co-Laborers together with you in the Great Commission,

David, Debby, Sarah, Rebekah & Joshua
