October 2007

Dear Friends & Supporting Churches,

When stepping into a new ministry there is always a fear of the unknown... These fears are not based on God's sovereign plan, but in our ability to carry it out. As you know, I have recently begun a new position of ministry working as the "Missions Chair" at Arlington Baptist College. I have been working hard on developing a challenging curriculum founded on the biblical model of missions. At the same time, I have also tried to mix together practical world experience that can be used in a variety of cultural locations and settings. Although the semester is only four weeks old the experience thus far has been a true blessing. The connection between the students and the Missions Department is growing stronger, and we are seeing an eagerness for lost souls and an enthusiasm for upcoming opportunities.
The vision God has given me for the Missions Department is slowly coming together. We are planning a student-wide Missions Trip at the end of the spring semester for those interested in learning and applying ministry skills on the field. I am also praying about and planning a Student-Body Missions Organization. It will focus on relevant topics, skill acquisition, and practical application for both local and foreign ministries in our world today. Finally, I have secured additional Missions Chapels to help emphasize the need for every student to get involved, whether they will serve as a missionary, pastor, teacher, youth director, music leader, or biblical counselor. These are a few of the initial changes that are being introduced into the program.
I want to end by thanking all the Churches, pastors, and friends who are continuing to support our ministry. Your love for missions makes this endeavor possible. My hope and prayer is that more will see the global need, believers will heed the call to work in the harvest, and that collectively we will all get more involved. Please pray that God gives me the wisdom, passion, and perseverance to lead a department that will influence the next generation. If there are any questions or suggestions to this new ministry please do not hesitate to contact me.

In His Service,

Brian & Jodell Powers
