FRENCH POLYNESIA

November 11, 2011

Hello Friends,
Last week I returned from a week visiting Mangareva, the main island in the Gambiers group, 1,000 miles to the east/south of Tahiti.  It consists of a large circular coral reef about 50 miles in diameter, with 5 "high islands" or volcanos, and about 18 atolls.  Only 4 of the islands are inhabited, and 96% (1,100 people) of the population lives on Mangareva, where I spend the week going door to door.  I was able to cover the entire island in that time, and there were 5 confessions of faith in Christ - all ex-Catholics.  Our news letter for Nov/Dec 2011 will explain more, but we want to say thank you for praying for us, that we could go and give the Gospel to those on that island, which is really at the "end of the world!"  I have never been in a place so remote, but it is a beautiful land, with very gracious people, and a nice climate, as the temperature was 3 to 4 C degrees cooler than here on Huahine.
As well, I have had two visits with Immigration on Tahiti.  Mrs. Beaugrard is the offical that replaced Mr. Win when the government changed hands again. Temaru is now the president, he took over after Tong Sang lost a vote of confidence.  There is talk again of Flosse taking over power from Temaru, but Flosse is supposed to be in prison, for graft.  He seems to always avoid it, and is considering a grab for power again. Well, Mrs. Beaugrard is not near as helpful as Mr. Win was, but each president puts in his own people and she is now the one that handles the processing of the visas.
She gave us the same list of docs required that we have needed to supply the last two years.  Last year, there were two other docs that we had to fill out,(not on the list) but Mr. Win seemed to go out of his way to help us.  He rejected our paperwork the first time, in 2008, but after returning to Chicago and doing all he required, he was quite helpful the next two years concerning the visas.  I met with Mrs. Beaugrard several months ago (expecting to see Mr. Win, but he was gone) to discuss the visas for this year.  There was a problem with our medical assurance, for the docs needed list it as "social security and medical coverage" but after this last meeting, I think she, and the board of directors that approve the visas, will accept what we have.
We will send the the paperwork in to be processed in several days.  Other than that, we are planning a trip to the Australs at the end of the year, possibly for 10 days or two weeks, to evangelize as we did on Mangareva.
Thanks again for your prayers!  May the Lord bless you and yours,
