Dear Pastor and Co-labours, July 2008
His
health is fragile and his ability to walk comes and goes. He walks to
church on Sunday morning with his seventy five year old wife (it takes
them 15 min. and me only 2.) We celebrated his seventy-ninth birthday.
His wife made her decision for Christ over a year ago. I prayed and
asked God to give me another opportunity to witness to him, when it
looked like his days were coming to an end quickly. God heard my plea
and answered. As I sat on his bed as in times past I talked to him about
his need to have Jesus in his heart. His wife entered and asked what we
were talking about: he quickly answered “…about having Jesus in my
heart”. He made no audible decision at that time, so I will have to
talk to him again. Sometimes it is hard to know if Manolo understands or
not. It is not only his health that seems to come and go but also his
ability to comprehend. One thing that really brought joy to my heart is
when he told me he likes to go to church. It is there that he finds joy.
He really loves all the singing, teaching, and excitement that goes on
every Sunday. He never said that when he went to the Catholic Church. Do
pray that God will touch his heart very soon.
Good news! We have had two
people accept Christ as their Lord and Savoir in the last month.
Kensley, a man from Nigeria, who has been coming to the
African church for sometime, raised his hand for salvation a few
Sundays ago. After the service was over, I sat down on the pew beside
him; and as we bowed our heads, I was privileged to lead him to Jesus
for salvation. Two weeks later, after Jonatan preached in the Spanish
church, Alba Lucia asked Jesus to come into her heart. She is
in her forties and has been sitting under the preaching of the Gospel
for a few months. My wife started a class of discipleship with her.
A couple of weeks ago we had a record
attendance for Wednesday night. Some of it has to do with people
getting their working hours change. I thank God for all He is doing; it
is only by His grace that accomplishments are being made. We are getting
ready for summer camps: it will be a grueling three weeks out of the
next five. Camp means a variety of jobs, with anything from hauling
dozens of garbage bags, barbecuing, buying, cooking, and serving the
food to preaching and counseling. But
we know that it will be worth it, to see how God works in the young
people’s lives.
FAMILY NEWS:
Our daughter Rachel graduated from Midwestern Baptist
College last month. She has made us very proud, graduating with a 4.0
and as Valedictorian of her class. Rachel feels the Lord’s call to be
a missionary and is waiting for God’s plan in her life. As of now, she
will be a great help to us in the work this year, at camp, V.B.S., and
church.
