Dear Pastor and Praying Friends,                                                                                           April 23, 2008

We were about to start services in Paraisópolis, the favela church, when a young woman made her way to the front of the church and sat between Dana and me.  I immediately felt a sense of evil around me.  Dana recalled the lady’s smile as being that of a “devilish one.”  The young lady quickly informed Pastor Washington that she had come for a purpose which would not be pleasing.   During the soul-stirring message, she stood up, shouted something, and walked out.  Shauna said she had the most distorted look on her face.  After she left, I felt the weight of oppression lift.  Praise God for the Power of His Blood!

We are ecstatic to have Shaunna visiting us!   While she's here, she’ll be drawing Bible scenes on flannel so Dana can teach the ladies in Paraisópolis how to teach with flannel graph.  (The Lord has enabled us to train three new teachers for Sunday school).   Shaunna’s nursing skills will be such an asset for the doctors.   The people are giving what they can to have the second floor renovated for Sunday school classrooms.  Pastor Washington is asking each member to buy a 20.00 Reais “telha” or roof tile to repair the roof.  It doesn’t seem like a lot of money, but many of the people are unemployed.  The medical team will once again be coming out on May 1st.  This has proven to be a tremendous outreach for the church.

The affluent people in Moema are realizing the need to evangelize their city.  The Sunday school children raised 730 Reais from their change offerings to be donated to the Lar Efrata Orphanage.  The directors, Tony and Monica, are overjoyed that their 22 orphans will receive ample food and clothing.  Tony will represent the orphanage at our mission’s conference on May 23-25th.  The people will experience their first International Dinner.
Pray for Pastor Henry Lewis’ trip to São Paulo.  I know the Brazilians are looking forward to shaking his hand, hugging his neck, and shouting, “Obrigado!” for the Bibles and other materials that he sent.
Pastors, we know the economy has been hit hard.  We know that it’s not easy financially supporting missionaires, but thank you for trusting that God is greater than the economy.  Your prayers keep us safe on the field and your finances enable the works to go forward.  You keep our batteries recharged!

Thankfully Received,                                                                               Till He Comes,
