Our History

The World Baptist Fellowship Mission Committee approved Terry and Gloria as missionaries to the Fiji Islands in 1988. Later when it became impossible to enter that field they went to the West Indies.  After nearly 12 years in Jamaica, God has brought them back to the Pacific where they are currently serving in Micronesia, in the island nation of the Republic of Palau.
Bro. Terry McClure’s Testimony

As a bus kid, I was saved in children's church April 6th, 1969 at the Massillon Baptist Temple of Massillon, Ohio. It was during the telling of the Easter story that I realized I was a sinner and that I needed Jesus to save me. Gloria’s dad was the teacher and her mother was the one who lead me to the Lord when I went forward that Sunday morning. After returning home my sister and I both asked our parents to come with us the next week to learn about Jesus and how they could go to heaven. We were so excited but our parents forbade us to ride the church bus any more. But by the next Sunday, they were both up early and dressed nicely. They took us to Sunday school and church. Unknown to us was the fact that our parents were both Christian but they were following the American dream instead of God. But the Holy Spirit worked on their hearts and in only a short time after returning to church my dad surrendered to God’s calling to be a missionary. So off we went to Texas where he attended the Bible Baptist Seminary and then on to the mission fields…

At age 12, I knew the Lord wanted me to be a pastor/ missionary. So, for the rest of my high school years and into Bible College I worked to that end. In 1980, I enrolled at the Massillon Baptist College. This was also the sending church of my parents. While in college, I wanted to work with the faithful man and woman who led me to the Lord many years earlier, so I started helping in Jr. church. In 1982, their daughter Gloria and I married. Conclusion - Dear Christian Brother take hope when bringing those bus kids to church with you. God can save them and their families. However, they may end up marrying your daughters and take them to a foreign mission field ;) Just remember the eternal law of sowing and reaping. You always get back more than you sow…in heaven God takes account and He will give out our eternal rewards. Thanks Bus captains, Sunday school teachers, and future in-laws.

Sister Gloria McClure’s Testimony
I was led to the Lord at the age of five by my mother. I remember many evenings over family devotions discussing God’s will for our lives.  One series of devotions was over the life of Amy Carmichael, a lady missionary to India.  What impressed me as a young child was the fact that because God gave her dark brown hair and eyes, she looked very much like the local people and God used her greatly to spread the Gospel.  Because God gave me dark brown hair and eyes, for many years when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I would answer, “I want to be a missionary!”  As a teenager, I realized that missionaries leave home and country and I began to doubt I could do that.  It was at a summer camp when I was 14 that God got a hold of my heart and I surrendered to be a missionary or preacher’s wife.  Three years later when I told this story to a young man who also knew God had called him to be a missionary, he thought I was just trying to get a date!  But God works in wondrous ways and at age 18 I was married to this Godly man and on my way to fulfilling God’s will for my life.  I encourage all parents to raise their children close to God and the church from the time they are born.  Don’t belittle the desire of these little ones to one day be in God’s service.  We never know what God has in store for the future.

Our Missionary Work Starts

For 2 years we worked with Saipan Baptist Temple and Grace Christian Academy on the Northern Mariana island of Saipan. After our internship was finished we moved to Florida and worked on staff at the Pinellas Park Baptist Temple and Christian School in St. Petersburg. By 1988 they were approved missionaries with the World Baptist Fellowship Mission Agency. After being unable to get our work permit in Fiji the Lord opened the doors for us to serve in the Jamaica, West Indies. For nearly 12 years we planted churches and saw many souls saved in. Once the third work had called a national pastor, we started making plans to begin another work in a different parish. But the Lord had other plans. When our work permits were denied we sought the Lord’s leadership. That is when long time friend from Saipan expressed the great need for a Baptist Church planter to go to his home country of Palau and carry the gospel to his family.

We planned a survey trip and embarked on a plane for the island hopper to visit 8 different countries in the Pacific. That was 8:00 am September 11, 2001. By 9:00 am our plane had been grounded in Houston, Texas. Like all the others flights throughout the USA we could not go where we wanted to go. This notorious day will never be forgotten. But amongst the chaos and confusion of all the events of terrorism God was working in our hearts to speed us on to His destination. So we prayed and asked, "Why the delay?" And it seemed God wanted us to forget those other countries and just go directly to Palau. At least that is how we felt the Lord leading through answered prayers.

It took 3 months before we could get reimbursed for our tickets. God answered prayers and we got enough money back to buy a one-way ticket for everyone in the family. Not knowing anyone at all in the country, God opened door after door to provide transportation, a house and connections with many prominent people on the Island of Koror. Of those including the Vice-president, many in the business sector and even religious leaders all acknowledged the great need for God to work amongst these people.

Half way around the world from our home in the United States is a little collection of islands called the "Rock Islands." The official name is the Republic of Palau.” Known in the native language as "Belau" meaning "Fairy Tale Islands," Palau is located on the southern brim of the Mariana Trench and is a beautiful country. After our arrival sickness, flu, typhoons and mud kept the whole family house bound for three weeks. But with the coming of the New Year, there came new beginnings.

2002 In Palau – Our First Services:
The first three Sundays, we visited the various religious services of the existing "churches” where the Gospel might be preached. But there were NO churches that preached the whole counsel of God. There was NO Baptist church in the entire country. Assembly of God, Evangelical and a Nondenominational Youth club (PMA) was the closest to New Testament Baptist Churches available. Thank the Lord; at least a little bit of the gospel was available even if it was watered down with works and the gifts of the spirit. The people had an understanding of Jesus Christ and the Bible and the Church and it's purpose. During this time while visiting each of the various churches, pastors and businesses we passed out business cards for our future church – the Palau Baptist Church. We placed cards and tracts everywhere in hopes of getting those interested in a Baptist church to call us. By January 13 a small group of Christians, who had not been satisfied with what was available in churches in Palau, called us and shared their need for a Baptist church and missionary.  Then on January 13th, 2002 the first service of Palau Baptist Church was held in the home of one dear Christian family. It was wonderful; our first service had about 40 in attendance with only about 5 being from Baptist churches in other countries and we have not stopped growing.

Praise the Lord; God opened the door in a new country where there was no Baptist church. These Christians were not willing to compromise themselves in a worldly church that did not teach the whole Bible. They knew the truth and they prayed for God to send them a church planter. We were the answer God gave to their prayers. It is exciting to have this assurance that you are where God wants you. Knowing that we are the answer to their prayers makes the task ahead of us very hopeful. To have a people who really want to serve God with all of their heart is any pastor/ missionary’s dream.

Thank the Lord by our first anniversary at the Palau Baptist Church our membership had grown to 90. With the country being a crossroad to many other countries there is a distinct international flavor. We had 9 different nationalities and our outreaches were in many different languages, although all the church services were in English. With the various job situations and many transitional occupations, about once every year or two we see a lot of transfers to other countries and islands. Then we have the challenge of training more leaders to help us serve as we continue to win new Christians into God’s kingdom.

With 15-20 on visitation twice weekly, 8 Sunday school teachers, 8 guitar players and other musicians, 40 plus in the choir our people are hungry to serve in whatever way they can. This has thrilled our hearts and made serving the Lord a pure joy here in the Republic of Palau.

 NEEDS:

One major need is more laborers! Pray for God to call you into His harvest fields!

Our Bible institute is training 8 men. Pray for God to help these men to grow Spiritually strong enough to faithfully serve where the Lord leads them.

The economy is hurting due to the cost of gasoline. This effects all areas of our folks livelihood and our also. We run 4 vans to pick people up for services and these costs and maintenance are taxing.

As our sons continue to work with us, pray for God’s continued leadership and blessings. They are a real joy and asset to the ministry.

We have a Bible Study Program that detects the influences in the lives of each of our members. Using this has helped our singles (CrossRoads class) and youth (CIA – Christians In Action) to become OVERCOMERS! Area that are effected are music, movies, media, attitudes, dress, character, suicide, peers, teachers, cartoons, toys, magazines, novels, heroes, sports and movie stars, to name only a few. We are continuing to update and expand our data base as today’s influences continue to attack Christians from every angle/angel (Eph. 6:12). I would encourage all youth group leaders to contact us and partner with us to expand our “Influences Data Base.” It will help grow and mature Christians to become vessels of honor fit for the Master’s use (2 Timothy 2:21)!

Are you looking for a set of Bible Studies that takes a person from understanding the difference between true and false Christians to a faithful obedient steward of God? Our CD Bible Studies (Christian Discipleship Bible Studies) are 12 lessons that are reproducible in full color. They are simple English, Independent Baptist, Local Church and KJV only. These lessons are exciting, interactive, fill in the blank and not only for one-on-one use, but great for small group studies also. Just print out enough for the whole group and each person can follow along with their own Bible Lesson. Then they can keep the Bible Study for personal reference so that they can share it with others later. The first six lessons are for the lost and include: 1) True and False Christians, 2) Realizing your Need, 3) Repenting of your Sins, 4) Receiving God's Free Gift, 5) Recognizing a Reflection (assurance), 6) Now, What's Next? The second set of six lessons are for the New Christian and they include: 1) What is Baptism? 2) What is Church? 3) What is the Bible? 4) What is Prayer? 5) What is Obeying? 6) What is a Steward? As a Bonus we have also included a couple of extra Bible Studies 1) How to get to heaven from...Palau, 2) What does the Bible say about HELL? (fill in the blanks - a real eye opener!).

Each of these lessons can be edited and personalized to be from your church and include your church's name, pastor or mentor's name, address and phone numbers - but you cannot change the doctrinal teaching. It is based on the Bible and that we cannot change. If you desire for us to make the personalized changes for you we can also do that. Email us and let me know that you want a personalized copy for your church. You will have to provide for us the name of your church, pastor's name and phone number and address. Also, a Jpeg of your church building can be added if you can provide it.

We also have a ONE YEAR Bible Memory Program that is vital to every growing Christian's maturity.

It is called "MY Daily Devotions." It is Independent Baptist. It is KJV, Local church, Mission hearted and challenging. The program comes with a CDrom that has a whole year's worth of MY Daily Devotions in MS Word format. It can be edited to include your church's name, pastor's name and or the individual mentor's name and address. This is great to be used during Sunday School time or Prayer Meeting time or Weekly Bible Clubs. It comes with printable worksheets that are to be filled out each week during your devotion time. Then when you meet together once a week the Mentor and the Disciple work together to fill out their own individual REPORT CARD. You see, each and every week you can keep record of how you are growing spiritually by recording your growth on the Spiritual Progress Report Card. You grade yourself in areas such as: how many chapters did I read this week?, how many days did I pray?, did I tithe?, did I give an offering?, did I visit anyone?, did I make any calls?, did I do any Christian service?. Then you have to quote your memory verses to your partner and they have to quote theirs to you. Afterwards you sign each other's report cards just like back in school days ;) It is GREAT FUN! And it challenges Christians to grow and be faithful in maintaining Spiritual Growth.

A place on the Report Card is provided to keep records of important Steps of Growth such as: Date of Salvation, Date of Assurance, Date of Baptism, Date of Answered Prayers, Date you finished reading through the whole Bible, Date you started tithing and giving, Date you became a first time Soul Winner and much more.

God has blessed the use of this program here on the mission field with great Spiritual Growth in the lives of our church leaders, Sunday School teachers and Soul Winners. Each of our leaders has become Mentors to at least one new Christian that they brought to the Lord and in many cases several are Mentoring a couple of disciples at the same time. This program really helps the mentor and the disciple keep records of their Spiritual Growth. It is not embarrassing because the private time is shared between only the disciple and his or her mentor. But after several faithful months of filling out their Report Card disciples usually become very excited to share their faith and the record of their faithfulness to others.

New Christians often ask how can I learn to share my faith when I do not know very much. This program MY Daily Devotions gets the new Christian into God's Word and as they read it and memorize it and answer the daily questions asked in the devotions they quickly learn God's Word. It fills them with confidence and they eagerly start sharing their faith with their family and friends. It works! We have a very shy people here and still after learning the Truth of God's Word their shyness was replaced with joy in sharing the gospel. Pastors, teachers, youth leaders, Sunday School teachers and Soul Winners if you are looking for an exciting way to jump start Spiritual Growth again try using MY Daily Devotions. Email me and I will send them to you.
