October & November 2008

Dear Pastor and Friends:

Our power situation on the Island has gone from bad to worse since our last prayer letter. It has gotten "much worse." The governor has declared a state of emergency and--the headlines of the newspaper scream out that the #1 power plant could explode at any time. The Lt. Governor, who used to be the head of the Electric Company, has now been arrested and led away in handcuffs. Along with his sister and her husband. It seems they have enriched themselves with a scam involving money from the electric company.

They have the whole island on emergency power and we are load shedding. We were on a schedule of 2 hours off twice a day but the power was going off up to 6 times a day for 2-3 hours at a time. Now they have revised our schedule to 3 hours a day 3 times a day off and it is going off 4-5 hours at a time and at least 3 times a day. I sure hope they don't change the schedule again. It will be a total blackout.

The whole island is mad. No one can sleep. I might add that this is our hottest season. The temperature is any where from 85-95 and it is the monsoon season and the humidity is about the same as the temperature and it's "hot."

We had our Sunday Night fellowship meeting last night after church by candle light and I asked a policeman, who was in our services, if there wasn't someone at the electric company he could go and arrest and he told me the next person they wanted arrested was the governor. All I said was, Amen.

Please pray for us and the church and many more souls to be saved. People are leaving the island, businesses are closing and church people are deserting us. Did I mention that the water goes off for hours and days at a time?

But we are thankful for all God's blessings. How wonderful it is to live and work for the Lord and see souls saved and baptized and hearts made right with the Lord. What's a little discomfort now and then?
