May & June 2005

Dear Pastors and Friends:

The work in Jamaica has become very difficult. The whole country is in a sad state. Ordinary people are afraid to move about freely without watching every move they make. Gunmen are everywhere. One young man with an AK 47 blocked the entrance to a neighborhood and people had to pay to get in and out. A taxi driver from up our way is missing and cannot be found. The stench of 7 bodies dead several weeks brought people from all around to see where they had been dumped along the road up long hill. The solution to any problem they think is to chop or kill the other person. The churches are full every Sunday Morning and every one is having a good time in church but there is no one really serving the Lord.  Everyone is doing that which is right in his own eyes. May the Lord have mercy upon us all as the days get worse and the roads are filled with criminals at night My Bible says they love the night because their deeds are evil. But we are following our Saviour who is the light of the world and in Him is no darkness at all and we must walk in that light.

With all the crime and violence in Jamaica we would like to report that the Gospel is still being preached and souls are still being saved. People have been getting saved but every time we plan a trip to the ocean to baptize something happens to change their minds about getting baptized. An American man who has been coming to church owns a swimming pool store. He came to me last Sunday and offered an 8 ft swimming pool to the church to use for a baptistery. I spent most of the day Saturday working to get it in the right place and filling it up with water. Sunday morning came and everyone was excited about the pool. We baptized 7 young people. Praise the Lord. It may be plastic but it works. We not only had much water in the pool but in the floor. We are leaving it up for next Sunday and another baptism and praying it doesn't leak. This is so much easier than transporting everyone to the ocean and then back home again. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

The church in Dumfries is carrying on the work there. We have a young man from that church coming over to help us in this mission church. The pastor of the church in Hopewell has resigned and is going out as a missionary. The young man who was his assistant is now the pastor there. The Lord is still blessing and the work is going on.

Please continue to pray for us in these difficult times and thank you for your prayers and your continued financial support.  May the Lord bless you.

                                                                                                            In His service,

                                                                                                            David & Dottie McClure
