April & May, 2006

Dear Pastors and Friends:

We are still excited about what the Lord is doing here on Saipan. There were 14 saved in March and 13 in April. We have had a baptism every Sunday this year up until the last Sunday in April. We all looked around that Sunday and there was no one getting baptized and none of us knew what to do. We had gotten into the habit of going to the ocean every Sunday after services for almost five months and suddenly there was no one to baptize. We talked about this and decided that all the new ones had been baptized except for several waiting to get married before getting baptized. Then we decided we needed to get out there and look for more who need to be saved. Which leads us to another problem.

We have the upstairs of an old building rented. We have space for about 100 people. The floor is wood and old. We are afraid to put more than that in the building. Only the local indigenous people can own the land on this Island. We have been looking for the past 6 months for a piece of land to lease so we can put up a building. We can lease the land for 55 years and it is just like buying the land except after 55 years you have to give it back to the original owner along with all the improvements. We have been waiting for the new government to get established in office before we go to the Marianas Public Land Corp. and ask them to give us a piece of land for the Church. Well, the new administration is in turmoil because the government is broke. We had hoped to get a piece of land from the government given to us for a church but now we are not so sure this will happen.

We have a lease on the old building until October this year. We would like you all to help us pray for some land where we can build a church building and carry on the work of the Lord. The Population on this Island was 90,000. Now I think it is a little less because of the economic situation. The Island was filled with factories and a lot of them have pulled out and moved to other countries where the labor is cheaper. But this Island is filled with people and idolatry and we need to reach them for the Lord.

We have been able to get some Bibles but we need more songbooks. We are using "Great Hymns of the Faith." If any of you have some in very good condition, we are in great need. We still have some good ones but the pages are falling out of quite a few and as we grow we need more songbooks that are not falling apart. If you can help us with this we would deeply appreciate it. We need as many as you can send us and may the Lord bless you all for all your prayers and support. We are very thankful for your help through all these years and the many troubles and trials and blessings of missionary work. May the Lord continue to bless you.

                                                                   Sincerely,

David & Dottie McClure
