Dear Pastors and Friends:
The good news came early this morning. Everyone was rejoicing. The five gunman
who had been terrorizing Dumfries were caught. The street corners were filled
with people spreading the news. The people entered taxis and word spread through
out the surrounding areas and people laughed and talked enjoying the good news.
They were caught in a board house. Two were shot dead and died on the spot, two
were caught and taken to the lock-up and one was wounded and got away. But not
to worry , he would be found. Now it would be safe to return to their normal
everyday life. The shops would stay open late. The roads would be filled again
with people walking. The Church people would return to church Wednesday Night
and the world didn't look quite so bad today.
We left our home about 5:45 PM to pick up people for church on Wednesday
evening. We returned about 9:30 PM. I started to get out of the van to
unlock the gate and noticed how quiet everything was. No dogs. We were both
alarmed. This is the standard procedure for thieves and murderers. Get rid of
the dogs first. I got back in the van and locked the doors and we waited and
looked around. We had been warned by numerous people that if this ever happened
to immediately leave because they would be hiding and waiting for us. We finally
decided to open the gate and drive in the yard. We got out and unlocked the
house. Everything was quiet. We got back in the van with the spot light and
decided to search the neighborhood. No dogs could be found. Everyone was now
alarmed. The next day we made a report to the police station and they warned us
to be very careful. Word spread that we had made a report to the police and the
police promised to come and investigate when they could get a vehicle. When I
got up very early the second morning 2 of our dogs came running into the yard.
We realized that the thieves are in the area and listening. They are also
watching the house and us. The Lord has kept us safe for many years. We will
continue to rely on Him.
Brother Alton Vernon who was pastoring the Faith Baptist Church has been removed
from working in this church because of many problems. It looks like I will have
to work in this mission church instead of starting a new work for the present
time. We are looking for someone to pastor this church but it is very difficult
to find a pastor without training him ourselves. At this moment we have no one
who is qualified. It is difficult to find young men to train for the ministry
because the immorality is so bad.
We do have good news. Four were saved and four baptized in the works this past
month. Thank you for your prayers and support.
In His wonderful service,
David & Dottie McClure
