May 2008 Update from Debbie
Dear
Praying Fiends,
Since
my last update was a small novel, this is just a quick note to give
you the latest news on Mike. He is doing well and we will be
leaving Del Rio and the St. Joseph’s Medical Center next Tuesday,
May 27. We wanted to be back in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for my
Dad’s cancer surgery on the 29th. Because of our
sense of urgency, they’ve given Mike the “concentrated rush job”
treatment so, after only a little over 5 weeks of treatment, he is
being released. We firmly believe that this is a direct answer
to your many prayers on our behalf!
When
we found out Mike had prostate cancer the last of January his PSA was
3.3. By the time we came to Del Rio on April 16th,
his PSA was up to 6.9. His PSA this last Monday was 4.5.
This is good news but, to get a “true” reading, he will have to
get another PSA done in about a month after the swelling and
irritation goes down from the injections he has been getting in
his prostate. We’ll see then if we’re free to go on home to
Honduras.
Next
Thursday, my Dad (who will be 80 years old this Sept.) will be having
about 2” malignant tumor removed from his left kidney. After
he recuperates from that surgery they will concentrate on the best way
to take care of his very aggressive prostate cancer. In the mean
time, they are giving him hormone therapy to try to hold it at bay.
Please keep praying for both my parents as they go through this very
difficult time in their lives.
My
sweet Uncle Bill, went to Heaven last Friday, May 16th.
Please remember my aunt, Trula Pennington, and her family in
their loss. He was such a dear man and a precious Christian.
My cousin, her youngest son, just passed away last year at the age of
47, so I would really appreciate your prayers on their behalf, that
our Heavenly Father would continue to comfort and uphold them all
through this second bout of grief.
Also,
I would like to ask prayer for Barbara, the wife of a fellow patient
who passed away on May 9th. Barbara stood faithfully
alongside her husband during his illness. On the 16th,
(the same day that my uncle passed away) Roy, another fellow patient
at St. Joseph’s, lost his battle with liver cancer, Hepatitis C and
cirrhosis of the liver. At the time of his death, the
cancer was completely gone, but it was complications with the
Hepatitis C that took his life. Please remember his wife, LuAnn, in
your prayers. Then, on that same day, another patient, Christy, got
word that her 29 year old niece had suddenly died with a blood clot.
Christy, who went to be with her sister last Saturday, will return
tomorrow to continue her battle with lung & liver cancer. Christy
and her family needs your prayers, too.
It
has been amazing to me how incredibly close we have become with
everyone taking treatment here in Del Rio. While we can’t wait
to see family and also get back to our dear people in Honduras, it
will be hard to say goodbye to those who will stay here and continue
to battle for their lives. We will carry so many of these dear
people in our hearts. Each one will be in our daily prayers and
we will do our best to stay in touch with them and closely follow each
one’s progress.
We
are also going to miss our new found “family members” and prayer
warriors at Victory Baptist Church. What dear, precious people
they are! Even though they’ve been without a pastor for the
last five months, their strength and faithfulness to their church,
their Lord and the blessed Book has been a joy and tremendous blessing
to Mike and I! How we will miss them!! Please pray that
God will send a Godly man to shepherd this flock, someone worthy of
leading this wonderful little church.
We
know that the only hope that any of us have, not only in this life but
the next, is the hope we have in Jesus. Pray for us, as we do
our best to be testimonies and bold witnesses to those who do not know
that the only SURE hope we have is in the shed blood of our precious
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his free gift of salvation and
eternal life.
We
love and appreciate you all more than you’ll ever know! Your
calls, letters and emails assuring us of your prayers and encouraging
us on has been overwhelming! May God bless each and every one of
you!!!
