CHILE

Dear Co-Laborers,

!!Serious Prayer Needed!!

Have you ever had one of those days where your entire body just ached all over?  Have you ever had one of those days when the headache just wouldn't stop.  Well, several weeks ago, my day started out like that.  Of course, we're all used to getting aches and pains but we take some aspirin and go on.  At least, that's what I thought I would do.  Three days later, the headache was still there and getting worse.  Furthermore, my back was beginning to become stiff.  After several days, Barb took me to the emergency room at a clinic close to our house.  At first, the doctor's were baffled as to what could be causing the headaches and such.  After several tests, they sent me in for an MRI, which revealed some swelling inside my spine.  They knew they had to do a spinal tap to confirm their suspicions and sure enough, cloudy, inflamed liquid was discovered.  They determined that I had bacterial meningitis.  They immediately moved me into intensive care where I would spend the next several days.  A day after the MRI, they sent me in for a brain scan to determine the extent of the bacteria.  Unfortunately, they found it had made it's way into my brain stem which in turn caused swelling on the brain itself.  It is amazing the problems a little brain swelling can cause.  It was responsible for the severe headaches.  But at the same time, it was playing havoc on my blood pressure, as well as causing numbness in parts of my face and body.  Because of the numbness throughout my right side, the checked for, but ruled out a mini-stroke.  They believe either the swelling or possibly the medication was responsible.  After ten days in extensive care, they finally let me go home.  They have told me, that very possibly, I will need up to 3 months or a full recovery.  This all began in August and I must admit, the recovery has been very slow going.  I have been going in for weekly brain scans and they still have me on the medication to kill the virus.  The numbness is still there and for now, everyday is filled with weakness.  I am able to spend a few hours a day out of bed.  This is a time when we need some serious prayer warriors.  Satan is doing everything he can to destroy the work here in Santiago.  However, I am happy to report that the ministry is going forward in spite of my health.  Our paperwork is now "official" and waiting to be picked up in the lawyer's office.  Our people are growing spiritually.  They recognize this situation as an attack from the enemy and have grown stronger in their commitment to our church and are praying more than ever.  Please forgive the lateness of this letter.  With the sickness, I have not been able to get much done.  Thank you so much for your faithfulness and prayers.
