I
wish that a letter could convey our joy over God’s working in
Ecuador
. Candelaria phoned us and talked over renting the large sports
stadium in Candelaria and send out invitations to the town and
surrounding Baptist churches. They wanted us to come and
participate but that was impossible due to
Sandy
’s health struggles. We are thrilled to inform you that the
church in Candelaria had 21 decisions for Christ and many other people
came forward to make other commitments. As of the last
communication with them, they had not received the total count of how
many people had prayed to receive Christ from our other churches and
missions in the area. It is such a joy to see the Ecuadorian
people that were won and trained by us serving God and how He is using
them there even in our absence. We, like Paul, can say there is no
greater joy, than to see those who have been born again through the
ministry there in
Ecuador
, continuing to serve the Lord wherever they are. The word
“thanks” is not sufficient for each of you who prayed for this
event.
I
want to share a very meaningful verse with each of you reading this
message. God’s Word proclaims in Psalm 30: 4 & 5, “Sing
unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of
his holiness. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour
is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the
morning.” To Sandy and I these verses have become extremely
important. The night has been evident in our circumstances over
the past several months but our faith hangs onto the word JOY which will
arrive in his time. The word has become so comforting to both of
us.
We
continue to ask for prayer on
Sandy
’s behalf as she faces more obstacles in her health. She will be
having the surgery on her left hip in the weeks ahead. Her hip is
giving out altogether so surgery is imminent. As many of you know,
she has been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration in both eyes which is
the leading cause of blindness in people. She began experiencing
problems in her left eye which drove us back to the specialist and she
now has another disease affecting her eyes. They are telling us
that she will have to have shots of steroids directly into the eye as
this problem advances. She was scheduled to have the first set of
shots on September 11th but the tests revealed that the
disease had not progressed very much and she was given a reprieve until
December 11th. Please pray that the shots will not be
necessary at all. Thank you for your prayers on our behalf.
We
continue to ask prayers for Dave and
Marlis Funk
as we sense the enemy at work in their lives. He sure does not
want to see them come to Jesus but we see a softening in Marlis’ heart
and we are trusting God for the victory in their lives. Please
pray earnestly for them. Also, don’t forget to pray for the new
believers in
Ecuador
. Pastor Pedro has baptized thirteen of them thus far and a
discipleship program is under way there. Pray that they will
mature in Christ.
We
close with this. It is with great gratitude in our hearts that we
send greetings and wishes for great joy in your lives. We have
been truly blessed by your support and prayers over these past 29 years
that we have served as your missionaries. Thanks for your faithful
support throughout all of the difficulties we have encountered with
Sandy
’s health. We are praying for God to show us great and mighty
things in the coming months that we can rejoice together seeing many
more spiritual blessings.
From
our hearts to yours!
