Praise and Prayer
Bible Institute
This semester at the Instituto Batista Bíblico do Norte has
been a time of improving and reorganizing many of our courses.
We are expecting a good number of students next semester as well as
our returning third year students. Please pray
that God will call our young men and women to prepare themselves for
His service as this is perhaps the greatest need here in the north of
Brazil. We need a place where students can live in during the
week as many of our churches are in our towns in the area and for some
time we have been praying for a place for the institute. Please continue to pray with us. Land and buildings are very expensive
but we serve a mighty God who is able to provide for His work.
Please pray with us about this.
Growing in the Lord
The First Baptist Church of Pau D’Arco is a growing church and we
are seeing souls saved and young people who were just a few short
years ago children, now taking some leadership positions in the
church. We have a Bible Club on Saturdays that is running around
80 kids and adolescents. The large majority of them have started
coming to Sunday School. What a blessing! The kids
are learning Bible stories, memorizing Scripture, and learning good
Christian conduct. We have had 8
children accept Christ as their Savior since January and we have been
able to witness to many of their families. Please pray for
Mary and for Marcia and
Heber who are directing this effort. Marcia and Heber are
institute graduates. Heber has surrendered to full time mission
work and is helping start a Bible
Club in another church in the area and is giving Sunday School
training classes 2 nights a week in still another area church.
Please pray for these two girls that God will continue to open
doors and use them for His honor and glory.
Camp Time
In just a few short months we will have our July camps for kids
and young people. Please pray for us as we plan these camps and
pray that God will send us many kids and youth to hear His word and
have a week of Christian fellowship. Children's camp is the first week
in July, followed the next week by youth
and adolescent camp. We have invited Pastor Marcelo from São
Paulo to be the guest speaker for the youth camp. He is a
tremendous man of God. Camp is an important time here as it is a
time when we can separate, for just a week, the young people and kids
from the things the world offers and give them the opportunity to hear
God’s Word and let God speak to their hearts. Pray that God
will call out some, for the fields truly are white unto harvest.
Prayer Request
Personal:
1. good health for Mary and I as we work in His fields.
2. for each institute student and teacher;
3. for our two sons, John and Kyron and their ministries
Needs for the Work
1. for God’s supply of a place for the institute;
2. for the coming up camps in July and for funds to dig a new
well - $800.00 (the old one caved in)
3. Sponsors for the new Bible Clubs being started by our
missionary ($300 to start and $25 a
month to maintain the program.
4. His provision for the building of the First Baptist
Church of Pau D’Arco; (About $4000)
5. Sponsors to send kids to camp ($15 each)
Will you pray? Will you Help?

Merry Christmas
from
Bill and Mary
Horton
"And there were in the same country
shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by
night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of
the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the
angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings
of great joy, which shall be to all people For unto you is born this
day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
November, 2001
Dear Friends in Christ,
We want to take this opportunity to thank each
of you for your prayers and support during this year of 2001. The Lord
has been very good and has blessed in marvelous ways here in Northern
Brazil. The First Baptist Church of Pau D’Arco has grown so much in
number and spiritually. We have been able to add a much needed
bathroom and we are slowly building some classrooms in order to have
junior church in all services, thus relieving the standing room only
situation we are in. Please pray that God will provide the needed
funds. Our people are doing the work themselves but material is very
expensive.
Our Bible Club on Saturdays is running around 70
kids and we have been able to reach many for Christ through this
ministry. Mary coordinated the program and it is very similar to
awanas. We have 10 of our people working in the club. Two of them are
graduating seminary students who teach and help in the direction of
the program. It is so exciting to see the enthusiasm of these kids and
to see how the Lord is blessing in their lives. Please pray for this
ministry. We have 3 classes, one from 4 to 6 yrs, one from 7 – 10 yrs, and one from 11 – 14 yrs. We have been able to integrate most
all of these into our Sunday School program and are reaching some of
their parents with the gospel.
We will be finishing another school year in the
Bible institute, and we will be having our first graduation service
with 3 graduates. Pray for them as they seek God’s will in their
lives. One of them is the daughter of the Pastor who helped us start
this work and who the Lord called home a couple of years ago. Her name
is Heber Amaral and she feels called to be a missionary but is not
certain of a particular field as of yet. Please pray that the Lord
will give her direction. We are still praying for a place of our own
for the institute as we need more room, a small library, etc. We are
very grateful to the Independent Baptist Church (my sons Kyron and
John’s work) that has allowed us to use their building but we ask
that you pray for God’s leadership and provision of a place of our
own. Pray for each student and each teacher as this is a work the
devil hates and fights every step of the way. Praise God for the
answered prayers and victories we have through our wonderful Lord and
Savior.
We have been doing a lot of work at our camp,
the El Shalom Independent Baptist Camp. We want to thank each of you
who have had a part in this ministry. We have seen lives changed,
young people surrender to full time service, and many souls saved
through the ministries of the El Shalom Camp.
Again we want to wish each of you a Merry
Christmas. We love you and appreciate you so very much. May God bless
you.
Till Jesus Comes,
Bill and Mary

God's Blessings
Youth and Children's Camp
What a
wonderful camp we had ! The Lord showered his blessing on this camp,
giving us the best camp we have had in several years. The spirit was
sweet, the fellowship between the youth was wonderful, and we all
felt God's Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts. Pr. Ebenezer and his
wife Márcia from São Paulo came to be the special speakers for the
youth and adolescents. God used Pr. Ebenezer to challenge and speak
to the hearts of each one and his wife brought challenging lessons
from God's word for the adolescents. We had many decisions for full
time service made, lives rededicated to the Lord and some precious
souls saved. João, a young 14 year old boy from our church who has
no parental love and attention, no definite place to live, never
smiled, and did not know the Savior, found Jesus Christ as his
personal savior on the last day of camp. What a difference as we saw
him come into church on Sunday with a big smile! Wow what a Savior!
After this
wonderful camp we had a week off and then we had junior camp. God
blessed this camp also much beyond our expectations. The Lessons
were tremendous as God used Marcia, one of our Bible Institute,
graduating seniors from our church in Pau D'Arco to teach these kids. We saw many kids come to know the Lord as Savior. All of the
kids had a great time and how they wished camp would not end. Most
of them have little or no parental love, very little food to eat and
live in very bad conditions. Please pray for the work among the kids
here in our area.
Bible
Institute
A new
semester at the Instituto Batista Bíblico do Norte will begin in
August. It will be so good to have our son John and his family back
in the work (not to mention our grandkids that we haven't seen for a
year). God is so wonderful! He just keeps on blessing! For some time
we have been praying for a place for the institute. Please continue
to pray with us. Land and buildings are very expensive but we serve
a mighty God who is able to provide for His work. Please pray with
us about this.

Building For
His Glory
Please pray
for this church as we are slowly building a bigger place. We have
two Sunday School classes that meet outside (when it doesn't rain)
and one Bible Club class. We have the walls up and are saving to be
able to get a roof on. Please pray for these precious people that soon we will be able to finish this building. We have been able to
add a bathroom since our last prayer letter and believe me that is a
blessing.

Family
Retreat
What a great
time we had praising the Lord and studying His Word while the rest
of the
country was taking part in the most ungodly festival of the
year, Carnival. We had a
tremendous speaker, Pr. Inácio, from the
state of Tocantins. We studied about Christian
families in the year
2001 and everyone went away from the retreat with a renewed
dedication to
protect and cherish our families as we serve the Lord.
One 22 year girl was saved.
Bible
Institute
This semester
at the Instituto Batista Bíblico do Norte we have added two new
teachers to the
staff, Pr. Celson Batista and Pr. Luiz Rodriguez. It
is always a wonderful thing when we see the
Brazilian leaders in
action. We are so thankful to the churches that have had a part in
buying
books for our library. Our students have a lot of research
papers to do and now they can
accomplish this in our own library.
