“Miss Daisey”

Dear Friends-in-Christ,

By the time you receive this, 2007 will be but a memory and we will be pretty well into a brand new year.  During the first week of a new year it’s not unusual to reminisce about the past and to dream about the future.  Were there things that we could change about the past 365 days if we had a chance, or are we happy with the last 52 weeks of our lives.  2007 for all intents and purposes is gone, everything we did and everything we strived for is now history.  December 2007 is as unobtainable as December 2006 or 2003 or 2001.

How do we know what will happen in 2008?  James 4:14 pretty well sums tomorrow up, “For what is your life?  It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”  Well the vapor of 2007 is starting to vanish, and we are moving into a new year—2008.  As always, we believe that the future is as bright as the promises of God, remembering the words of the Psalmist in Psalm 138:2, “…for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”  The New Year promises to be a great year in home missions.  As we stand posed to enter the threshold of 2008, maybe we would do well to reflect for a moment on 2007.

It has been a good year.  This year we can rejoice in the fact that in 2007 two of the four new works have chartered.  One has purchased eleven acres of land, two out of the four have found better meeting places.  Best of all, four of these works have taken on missionaries.  Let me say now that the advances that were made in 2007 were because of your prayers and support.  At this juncture, “Miss Daisey” and I want to thank you for your prayers and support for us, as well as your prayers and support for these works.

As we move into the New Year let’s put it into perspective.  There are 773,672 words in the Bible (Don’t ask me how I know; I just read it somewhere.).  The word worry is used 13 times.  Compare that with trust found 126 times, faith 270 times, and believe 226 times.  My point is:  worry probably kills more people than trust, faith or believing.  When I say that 2008 is going to be a great year, I believe that, and I want to do everything I can to make it just that.  I invite you to join me to that end.

Unworthily His,

Wendell & Daisey Hiers
