We
need more churches! May
2005 Dear Prayer
Partner,
In God we trust! In
Arlington, Texas a Christian police officer was fired because he refused to
remove a cross from his lapel. While
officers are allowed to wear other personal pins on their uniforms, the
department insisted that the cross might offend.
“It
is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.”—George
Washington.
In 1989 the state of California prohibited
its employees from discussing religion while on state property.
Displaying Bibles or other religious paraphernalia in offices and
cubicles was also banned. “It is the duty of our Christian
nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”—John Jay
1816.
In Albuquerque, New Mexico, a high school
choir director was fired following a 1998 Christmas concert.
School officials said that more than half of the songs he included
contained Christian themes. “It cannot be emphasized too
strongly or too often that this great nation was founded on the gospel of Jesus
Christ.”—Patrick Henry 1788.
In Fargo, North Dakota, residents were
arrested and jailed after participating in a silent prayer walk.
Police said that because they were unfairly targeting specific homes for
prayer, they were in violation of an anti-picketing law.
“The
longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs
in the affairs of men. Do we
imagine that we no longer need His assistance?
Have we now forgotten this powerful Friend?”—Benjamin
Franklin 1787.
In the 21st century America has
forgotten God. There are places in
the USA where it is no longer safe to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you believe and preach the truth of John 14:6 and I Timothy 2:5 then
you are guilty of intolerance. Right
and wrong depend on whom you are talking to, and sharing the gospel now comes
with a cost.
Do we need new Independent Baptist Churches
in America? You bet we do. Please
pray for and support WBF Home Missions. We
can and need to impact our nation by church planting.
Ask God to give us some men with a passion for church planting for the
purpose of glorifying Jesus Christ. Unworthily His, Bro. Hiers World Baptist Fellowship Mission Agency
