July 2010

Dear Helpers,

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of

them all." Psalm 34:19. Thank you for all your prayers, especially for Betty's health.

Betty will be undergoing surgery on her back for the second time on July 19th. The disk re-herniated and is still pressing on the nerve as it comes out of the Spinal Cord at the L-4, L-5 level. The doctor will be doing a spinal fusion and also putting a cushion at that level. The pain has been high and constant for several weeks but because of the anti-bodies for cancer Betty is taking we had to wait a little longer to do surgery. The recovery time will be a little longer this time because of the fusion. Betty is not able to walk very well and cannot exercise to keep her arthritis under control. Please also pray for her about the anti-estrogen medicine she has to take for five years. She tried the tamoxifen 5 days after her spine surgery because that was her schedule. But she just kept throwing up so the oncologist made her stop and the neurosurgeon thought that may be what caused the disk to bulge again. The oncologist told her to wait 3 more months until we get through this second spine surgery.  Please pray with us that this surgery will be effective and the pain will go away.

The Institute in Manaus is on the regular 3 months break from classes which will start again on September 13th. Several new students are expected to start this trimester.  Please continue to pray the "Lord of the Harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest". There is always work to do and never enough resources and laborers to do it. Brazil still needs thousands of pastors and missionaries to be able to cover its vast area with the Gospel.

The church we organized just before we left Brazil is continuing to preach and teach the truth in the suburb where they are located. The transition from Missionary to National Pastor has gone well with only a few "bumps" along the way.  Of course the enemy is never pleased to see God's work prosper and will do everything possible to neutralize an effective witness for Jesus Christ. Pray for them and all the churches in Manaus that they might be faithful to God's plan and purpose.
