John and Rebecca Hawkins
Missionaries to Brazil

Dear Friends and Loved Ones,                                                                                        July 30th, 2008

Ps 32:11 "Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart."

Rebecca and I would like to thank the Lord for meeting our needs these last few weeks. We have been going several directions and trying to get caught up at the church, at home, and getting our documents all rearranged again. My drivers license went out while I was on furlough and our Brazilian Social security/IRS cards were also out of date. It has taken me a long time to get my drivers license back, and Rebecca's Brazilian IRS card is still not cleared.

Things at the church have changed since my last letter. One of our main leaders has decided that the Lord has led him to another small church that is beginning. We are going to be sad that he is leaving, but at the same time, know that the Lord has a purpose in this. I am glad for the small church that is getting him. They have all but closed the door and need some one to help them! One of our other leaders has been under discipline. The church is strong though, and the Lord blessed us with a profession of faith Sunday night! We have a lot to do still in that place.

We have managed to buy a vehicle. I am not going to be able to buy my work truck yet. As you all know, the dollar is still very weak in Brasil, and things are terribly expensive. We will ask the Lord to provide as he sees fit. We thank the Lord for giving us what seems to be a good vehicle.

The church is preparing to build the first phase of the auditorium. Pray that things will go well, and that things will go well. So far everything is on track, and if they do finally give us the permission to build, our fears over the land problems will probably be over for good.

Rebecca is back in the public school close to the Church. She and the ladies from the Church had their first day this last Tuesday. The children are excited to see everyone back. The director of the school said that he has never seen anything like this before, and that the children look to the school as a "Safe Haven". This is a tremendous testimony to the power of the gospel even amongst the unsaved. The Word transforms the mind of even the unbelievers! Pray that we will continue to have an open door there, and that other schools will open up to us.

Thank you for your faithful support and prayers. Lord bless you.

His for Brasil
