February, 2010

Dear Praying Friends at World Baptist Fellowship,

This year has started off well. The group of churches we work with held a combined service of their satellite congregations, which they do at least twice a year. All who choose to be baptized are baptized during these meetings. One of the two men baptized in this service, Cleber, is a member of one of the congregation we work with directly. Cleber’s wife and their friend were saved. My co-worker, Michael Andrezejewski was the pastor who baptized them. As this was his first baptism on the field, he was very excited. Please pray for these people as they continue their walk with Christ.

We are now holding services in our new building. It is an improvement over our old one. We have some work that needs done to make it into a church building. This includes building walls in the basement to create classrooms, wiring the sound system, putting in lighting, and placing panels over the holes in the ceiling for heating and wiring. I want to send a special thank you to those who sent me Christmas money, which allowed me to buy some special things for our Sunday school classroom.

Our Christmas plays went well. The kids did an excellent job and the Gospel was clearly presented. We had many visitors. It is my hope that someone may have heard the Gospel and God is working on that heart.

At an average of two chapters a week, the translation is progressing on the book Passion and Purity. Translating is both very fun and very frustrating. The book is written in colloquialisms and uses words that need a whole phrase to explain. My former Portuguese teacher has become my editor and we laugh at both languages. I will sometimes ask her why a word in Portuguese is used the way it is and she answers that is just the way it is. My mother calls this OPC or Old Portuguese Custom. There is no explanation for why it is that way, it just is.

Bro Andrezejewski and I are helping the church in Braga start a Junior Church. We have been working on this project since the beginning of the year and the first Sunday in February was our first service. Our hope is that it will be an outreach to the children of Braga. Please pray for this ministry and for someone with a heart for kids who will step forward to lead this project.

Yours for the hearts of Portugal,

Dawne Hart
