MISSIONARIES        TO        ECUADOR

APRIL 2003

Dear Co-laborers in Christ,

We send greetings from Ecuador, South America.  Since the beginning of the year 2003 we have been even busier in the on going work of “Camp Chausipacha”. And in case you might have forgotten or didn’t know this Quichua Indian word “Chaupisacha” means “in the midst of the untamed.”  We are seeing more of an interest as pastors are visiting the area and getting to know the camp.  In March a very sad event took place.  Seńor Aurelio, who has been helping Ernie since we purchased the camp, died suddenly.  He fell with a landslide on a narrow mountain path on a foggy night on his way home from a workday for his son’s school.  He was found the next morning.  We are very sad and will miss his great help and counsel on the grounds there.  He was a believer and we praise God for that but other members of his family are not saved.  We ask you to pray for their salvation.  He left behind a wife, one son and daughter at home, 2 married daughters and 1 married son plus a few grandchildren.

In February preparations began and in March classes resumed for the Bible Institute in Candelaria with our Quichua brethren.   We have a group of 30 eager students and the majority of them are new.  We ask you to pray with us that God will call pastors, missionaries, church leaders and better-prepared Sunday School teachers from this student body.  Pray for us please as we prepare and teach each week.  We are privileged to have this great opportunity in this ministry but also realize the responsibility that accompanies it.

Since January there have been 7 saved, 2 baptized and 9 join the church that we are helping in Quito.  The attendance has been increasing and we have had new visitors each month. It has become necessary to divide the children’s Sunday school class and one of the teen-agers has volunteered to teach.  It is always an encouragement to see the folks get more involved and assume leadership positions in the local church.  Thank you all again for your part in our ministry here in Ecuador and please keep on praying!
