Romans
8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good…”
How often have you and I quoted this verse and said we have
believed it to be true only to doubt God when circumstances do not go as
we planned? This furlough as
I have visited churches I have seen once again that this verse really is
true and God is working all things for good. Let me share three examples
where this has proved true.
I
was visiting my mother in
Pittsburgh
when I realized that I need to take care of some business at the bank. I
was sure that a large city like
Pittsburgh
would have a branch of my bank; I
was wrong. I had to drive an hour and a half to
Youngstown,
Ohio
to find a branch of my bank. After taking care of the necessary business
I was led speak to the bank manager. She was very helpful and courteous
and at the end of our conversation I felt led to speak to her about
salvation, she was very attentive and open. Although she did not accept
Christ as her Saviour that day I thank the Lord for the seeds I was able
to plant in her life. All this happened because I was not able to find a
branch of my bank in
Pittsburgh
.
Recently
in making some plane reservations to visit a church in
Michigan
I inadvertently made the return reservation for
7:12 p.m.
instead of
7:12 a.m.
I was a little disgusted with myself for not paying attention but,
decided to try to go stand by to return earlier than
7:12 p.m.
I was informed that the flight was full and there was little chance I
would be able to get on the flight. God however had made plans that I would
get on that flight and I did. I sat down next to a man and through our
conversation asked him about his salvation. He assured me that he had
accepted Christ as a child and had certainty of his salvation; he had
not however been living a Christian life as our conversation had showed.
I challenged him to return to the Lord and His word to evaluate his
priorities and realize that God has saved him for a reason and that he
should seek to fulfill that purpose in his life. I was overjoyed as we
parted company in the airport to hear him say that my words had not
fallen on deaf ears and that he would return to the Lord and His way. If
that was all that had happened because of the mistake in the reservation
it certainly would have proven the verses’ validity. God however was
not done. I stopped on the way back to Minnetonka Youth Camp to eat a
bite. I felt a little strange as I was the only customer at Carl’s
Barbecue at
five o’clock
in the afternoon, but ate and rose to pay my bill. I paid my bill and
asked Carl, the owner, about his eternal destiny. He had attended church
as a child but had never accepted Christ as his Saviour. I was blessed
to see Carl accept Christ right there at the cash register. God is so
good!!! Needless to say Carl would not have been there at that register
if I had not gotten on the standby flight and would not have been there
if I had gotten on the flight I wanted to. Romans
8:28
is true and I had the privilege to see it proven in my life. Prove it
yourself and see how our Lord will work in your life.
We remain…
Yours in the white fields,
