Greetings From Mexico
July 6, 2010
They say that life is
dynamic and not static. Stated simply that means that it is constantly
changing. That is exactly what we have experienced with our ministry
here in Monterrey, Mexico. After twelve years of working in the Bethesda
Fundamental Baptist Church, the Lord has led us to another work. We have
been praying about this matter for several months, and the Lord has
finally opened the door for us to begin a new area of ministry.
We
thank God for the twelve tremendous years of ministry that He gave us in
the Bethesda Fundamental Baptist Church and the Bethesda Fundamental
Baptist Bible Institute. We have enjoyed a wonderful working relation
with missionary Daniel Jones and his wife Michelle, and with the Mexican
pastor, Juan de Dios Garza and his family. Please continue to pray for
the Bethesda Fundamental Baptist Church, and Daniel Jones, Sr. family
and Juan de Dios Garza and his family. In particular, pray for them as
they get ready to begin construction on their new building. While we
will miss the many friends that we will be leaving in the Bethesda
Fundamental Baptist Church, we are looking forward to the new mends that
we will make in the new ministry.
Our
new ministry will be with the Good Shepherd Baptist Church. This church
is located in a poor area on the south side of Monterrey. The pastor of
the church is Julian Ramirez. His wife's name is Ana, and he has three
children: Angel, Julian and Ana. This is the same work that we were in
when we first came here to Mexico. About a year and a half ago, the Lord
put us in contact with Julian at a Youth Rally that we attended. He
invited me to preach, but I didn't think much about it afterwards. About
a month ago, as Bonnie and I were out making some other calls, I said,
"Why don't we go by and see Julian?" We did, and he invited me
to preach. We attended the services the following Sunday, I preached and
we immediately felt that this was the place in which the Lord wanted us
to begin ministering. After praying and talking with Julian, God gave us
a peace about it and we decided to begin our new ministry in the Good
Shepherd Baptist Church.
The church
has an average attendance of about 60, half of them children and half of
them adults. It is located in an area which is called
"conflictive," with great problems of drug abuse, crime, and
broken families. Please pray for Julian and his family. Please pray also
for the church and its ministry in this very needy area. Pray for
Bonnie, Timothy and I as we begin this new area of ministry.
Because
of beginning this new ministry, and the needs of it, we have decided to
postpone our furlough at least until December. This will allow us to get
established in the work, and get to know the people to whom we will now
be ministering. We will be booking appointments for after the first of
the year. If you would like us to come by, please contact me at one of
the addresses below, or via e-mail.
Thank
you for your faithfulness to pray for us. Thank you also for those who
are faithful with your financial support as well. May the Lord richly
bless you for your faithfulness to Him, and to us His servants.
In His Service,
The
Bitners
Jerry, Bonnie and Timothy
